The Test of English as a Foreign Language tests an individual's ability to use and understand English in an academic setting. It is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). It was developed to ensure English language proficiency for non-native speakers wishing to study at American universities and business schools. It is an admission requirement for non-native English speakers at many English-speaking higher education institutions.
