Opportunities for African managers

The George Washington University is set to venture into Africa with a new programme. The University has partnered with two organisations to develop the so called Capital Markets Programme: The Milken Institute, a think tank focused on increasing prosperity in countries around the world, and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Treasury, which promotes sustainable private sector investment in developing countries.

The new programme will start in autumn this year. It involves a cohort of mid-career professionals working in the finance sector across countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Students will take courses in different subjects like corporate finance, risk management, capital markets and quantitative thinking for capital-market decision makers. After the coursework they will participate in an internship in a public- or private-sector finance organisation within the U.S. to gain some practical experience. After finishing the programme and returning to Africa the programme wants to extend its support via alumni experiences and by fostering the relationships within the cohort.
