Stanford is top for a career in finance

Stanford GSB is the leading school for MBA students striving for a career in finance, according to a new ranking by the Financial Times (FT). The US-American school took the top spot in the FT survey which analysed responses of graduates working in finance three years after completing their MBA courses. Harvard Business School and Judge Business School ranked second and third.

Despite growing competition from other industries, finance is still the largest employer of MBA graduates followed by consulting firms. In Stanford’s case 27 per cent of its alumni were employed in finance earning an average of $266,000 a year, a 104 per cent increase on their pre-MBA salary, and more than other graduates among the top 50 schools.

According to the FT the ranking does not cover specialised MBAs in finance though. The newspaper worked with data collected in 2016 as part of the FT 2017 Global MBA ranking and included schools where more than 10 alumni worked in the finance industry and responded to the survey.

The ranking looked at 13 different aspects, amongst them salary and salary increase of alumni, career progression and research published by the schools’ faculty.
