Those are just a few of the perks enjoyed by people who work at the companies that provide the best compensation and benefits in the U.S.A., according to a ranking by American company Glassdoor (see full ranking here http://www.glassdoor.com).
Glassdoor has information on 300,000 companies in its database, including descriptions of job interviews and reviews of bosses, as well as information about salaries and benefits. The data comes directly from its 23 million members. Glassdoor also shares salary information. At Google, the average base salary for software engineers is 128,000 dollar. At Facebook, software engineers start at an average of 120,000 dollar. At Costco cashier assistants make 11.75 dollar an hour, and front-end cashiers, who handle check out, start at 16.07 dollar.
At Google the benefits are numerous and well-known. In addition to high salaries, it has free buses that pick up employees in San Francisco and at spots all over the Bay Area. Like Facebook it offers bikes to commute around the campus and a fleet of electric cars for Googlers who need to drive from the Googlepex elsewhere. Its health care plan is unusually generous, when Google employees die, their spouses or domestic partners get 50 per cent of their salary for the next decade. The number of perks is sheer endless and includes even cooking classes, according to Forbes magazine which is reporting Glassdoor's findings.
Facebook isn’t far behind: The company offers three free meals a day – their campus includes two main cafes, a BBQ shack, a salad bar, a noodle bar, a hamburger stand, and others – as well as 100 per cent paid health insurance, four weeks of vacation per year, free dry-cleaning and laundry service on-site.
