The craze for bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies has spurred the demand but other industry sectors like the supply chain and logistics industry are also working with blockchain now, the technology behind the cryptocurrencies.
As students and recruiters observed the growing demand for blockchain expertise, especially in venture capital, which saw an 88 per cent increase in blockchain investments in 2017 (according to data from Pitchbook), they campaigned for universities to add classes to their curriculum. And their grassroot movement paid off, with several US-universities adding courses this year now.
Amongst them are Stanford Graduate School of Business, Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business. These schools are all teaching classes in digital currency and blockchain now to equip students with the knowledge that future employers will demand. “Any world-class programme is going to have to equip students in this field to compete," John Jacobs, executive director of Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business, told the US-TV station CNBC.
