“I don’t look at work as work and play as play; to me they are the same thing. If a new business opportunity or project doesn’t excite me and if it’s not something with which I can have a lot of seriously creative fun, then I’d rather pass on it and move right along,” he writes. “Life’s too short to waste your time doing things that don’t light your fire.”

These days Branson mainly enjoys working for Virgin Unite. He spends 80 per cent of his time travelling the world raising awareness and funds for philanthropic causes like ending the war on drugs, abolishing the death penalty, stopping rhino poaching, combating climate change, and conserving the ocean. “By spending my time on topics I am interested in and passionate about, I find I rarely need to unwind, reboot and refocus; instead I feel energised by my work”, he writes.

To wind down without any kind of work Branson enjoys kitesurfing as well as a simple cup of tea. “If you slow down, breathe, and be present in the moment you will find balance more easily. As well as taking tea breaks, I do this by putting time in my diary to exercise and spend time with my loved ones”, he writes.
