This current ranking therefore mixes the standard ranking winners up a bit, but it still confirms a trend that other rankings yielded as well by naming American business schools as the top schools worldwide. Of the 50 top ranked schools, 10 are European and three Asian – the rest are US-American.

Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania topped the Business Insider ranking for the first time in its six year-history. Its strong reputation, high graduation salaries and 95 per cent MBA employment rate pushed it to the top spot. Wharton graduates earned an average US$127,300 and were employed after three months.

Wharton was followed by Chicago’s Booth School whereas traditional high achiever Harvard claimed third spot. Stanford GSB and MIT Sloan ended up on number 4 and 5, respectively.

The remaining spots in the top ten also went to US schools: Kellogg made it to sixth spot, Columbia landed on number seven, Tuck on eight, Yale on nine and Haas on ten.

Notable and successful European business schools were the London Business School, Insead, which has a campus in France amongst others, British schools Cambridge Judge, Oxford and Warwick, HEC Paris, the Spanish schools Iese, IE and Esade as well as Swiss based IMD.

Hong Kong’s HKUST was the top ranking school in Asia, followed by CEIBS in Shanghai and Nanyang Business School in Singapore.
